CONTACTING LEGISLATORS AND FINDING BILLS ON THE INTERNET

Legislative information is available to internet users on a state website at http://www.legis.nd.gov.

For hearing schedules scroll down and click on “Committee Hearings - more about schedules”.  Go to Weekly Hearing Schedules.  Then find your bill and click on it for a schedule of hearings in that committee that day.  If you click on Senate or House Hearing Schedule you’ll get a scrolling screen of ALL hearings.

For more information on the www.legis.nd.gov site, under Legislative Assembly, click on 60th (2007) for access to information on legislators, their Email addresses, bills and resolutions and more.  You need Acrobat Reader on your computer to make this work.  That can be downloaded from the North Dakota Legislative Branch page, but it might take awhile.  You can also download Acrobat from the Convention section of the ndgda.org website.

To read a particular bill, click on House and Senate Bills (right side of screen), then Bills and Resolutions.  Scroll to the bottom of that page and click on House Bills or Senate Bills or House Resolutions or Senate Resolutions or whatever you want.  On the page that then comes up, look for the bill number down the far left column and click on the nine digit number to the right of that, which should be in a highlighted link color.  As the Legislative Session progresses there’ll be different versions of amended bills, so make sure you are looking at the latest one.

To find information on legislators, click on "Legislative Districts - more about legislators" (right side of screen), then Senate or House of Representatives (left side).  Finally, click on Senate Members or House members.  You can then choose by district, alphabetical, or a full roster.  Email addresses pop up regardless.

Phone numbers to contact or leave messages for your legislators are: 1-888-635-3447 (1-888ndlegis) or 701-328-3373.  The fax number is 701-328-3615.  Be sure to put the legislator’s personal name on your fax.
