![]() RAIL SERVICE LETTER 5-26-04 Dear Customer: Rail service at our elevator these past several
months has been horrible. We
were unable to receive your grain on a timely basis because of that.
Some organizations and public officials have been in contact
with the railroads, with Roger Nober, Chairman of the Surface
Transportation Board (STB), and with other public officials.
The STB is supposed to exercise some regulatory authority over
railroads. I encourage you to also make contact with the
people listed below by mail or fax or email.
Dorgan, Conrad, Pomeroy, Hoeven and Clark have been advocating
for better rail service. Include
in your letter: what elevator you normally deliver to, what railroad
it is on, how the poor railroad service has affected you (can’t
deliver, borrowing money instead of selling grain, extra cost to haul
it elsewhere, backup of grain in storage, etc.), what will happen if
this situation isn’t improved or repeats itself (elevator not able
to compete, elevator closing, increased damage to roads by longer
truck hauls, etc.) Contact: Roger
